Facial Plastic Surgery
Facial Plastic Surgery can address imperfections on virtually any area of the face. The lower face, neck, forehead, eyelids and cheeks may exhibit signs of aging that you find unsatisfactory. To address these problems, Dr. Newlon performs facial plastic surgery, as well as other cosmetic procedures, in Fort Myers.
The doctors of ENT Associates are experts at performing various ear, nose and throat procedures. Some of the most common include:
Ear Procedures:
• Bone Conduction Hearing SystemsBone Conduction Hearing Systems transfer sound, through bone vibration, directly to the cochlea, bypassing the outer and the middle ear. The system is useful for conductive and mixed hearing losses, and relies on a working cochlea to send sound to the brain.
• Cochlear ImplantsA cochlear implant is a surgically implanted Neuroprosthetic device that provides a sense of sound to a person with moderate to profound hearing loss caused by damage to the inner ear. Cochlear implants bypass the normal acoustic hearing process, replacing it with electric signals which directly stimulate the auditory nerve.
• Ear tubes (tympanostomy)Ear tubes (tympanostomy) is an operation to repair a perforation in the eardrum. A perforation is usually caused by an infection in the middle ear that bursts through the eardrum.
• MyringoplastyMyringoplasty is an operation to repair a perforation in the eardrum. A perforation is usually caused by an infection in the middle ear that bursts through the eardrum.
• StapedectomyA Stapedectomy is a surgical procedure of the middle ear. If the Stapes Footplate (a bone in the middle ear that plays an important role in hearing) is not functioning properly, then a conductive hearing loss results. This procedure removes the Stapes Footplate and replaces it with an artificial device which restores hearing function.
• TympanoplastyTympanoplasty is a surgical technique to repair a defect in the tympanic membrane with the placement of a graft, either medial or lateral to the tympanic membrane annulus. The goal of this surgical procedure is not only to close the perforation but also to improve hearing.
• Tympanoplasty with Ossicular ReconstructionIn a Tympanoplasty with Ossicular Chain Reconstruction, an implant can reconnect the bones and improve hearing (ossicular chain reconstruction). The eardrum is usually reconstructed at the same time (tympanoplasty). The procedure is performed by making small incisions in the ear canal or just behind the ear.
• TympanomastoidectomyA tympanomastoidectomy is surgery to treat frequent ear infections that have damaged the eardrum and tissue in and near the ear. The doctor removes the abnormal or infected tissue in the bony area behind the ear, called the mastoid. The doctor repairs the eardrum.
• Tympanomastoidectomy with Ossicular ReconstructionTympanomastoidectomy with Ossicular Chain Reconstruction, is a procedure that involves reconstructing the ear drum (tympanoplasty) and the small hearing bones of the middle ear. The mastoid bone is opened as well to resolve chronic infection, while the eardrum is reconstructed using a graft from under the skin.
Neck Procedures:
• Biopsy neck mass (superficial)A simple procedure, done under general anesthesia, where a small incision is made to biopsy or remove a neck mass just under the skin, and the tissue removed is sent to the pathology lab.
• Biopsy neck mass (deep)Under general anesthesia, an incision is made to biopsy or remove an abnormal neck mass, which will be sent to the lab for a biopsy.
• ParotidectomyA parotidectomy is the surgical removal of the parotid gland, the major and largest of the salivary glands.
• Submandibular gland removalSubmandibular gland removal is surgery to take out a saliva gland below the lower jaw.
Throat procedures:
• TonsillectomyTonsillectomy is a surgical procedure in which both palatine tonsils are fully removed from the back of the throat.
Thyroid / Parathyroid:
• ParathyroidectomyParathyroidectomy is surgery to remove the parathyroid glands (located behind the thyroid gland in your neck) or parathyroid tumors.
• Thyroidectomy (partial)A Partial Thyroidectomy is a procedure where the a small amount of thyroid tissue is left behind, which preserves some thyroid function.
• Thyroidectomy (total)Total Thyroidectomy is a procedure where the entire thyroid gland is removed.
• Thyroidectomy with lymph node excisionThyroidectomy with lymph node excision is a procedure that involves the removal of all but a very small part of the thyroid, as well as the removal of lymph nodes in the neck that contain thyroid cancer.
Facial Plastic Surgery:
Larynx Procedures:
• Laryngoscopy with biopsyLaryngoscopy is a procedure a we use to look at the larynx (voice box), including the vocal cords, as well as nearby structures like the back of the throat. Biopsy or removal of abnormalities of the throat is done under brief general anesthesia using a small examining tube called a laryngoscope.
• Microlaryngoscopy with biopsyA microlaryngoscopy involves the insertion of an endoscope through the nose and into the throat. If swelling is present we will perform a biopsy (take a tissue sample) inside the larynx. Since only a tiny piece of tissue is removed, stitches are not necessary. If lesions are present, they will be removed.
• EsophagoscopyEsophagoscopy is a procedure in which a flexible endoscope is inserted through the mouth and into the esophagus. The endoscope uses a charge-coupled device to display magnified images on a video screen.
• LaryngoplastyLaryngoplasty involves exposing the larynx through an incision in the neck and creating a "window" in the cartilage through which an implant can be placed while the larynx is observed with a flexible scope.
Nasal/Sinus Procedures:
• Functional Endoscopic Sinus SurgeryFunctional endoscopic sinus surgery is a minimally invasive surgical treatment which uses nasal endoscopes to enlarge the nasal drainage pathways of the paranasal sinuses to improve sinus ventilation.
• Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (Complex)Complex sinus surgery includes the maxillary, ethmoid, frontal and/or sphenoid sinuses. This minimally-invasive procedure allows us to remove or correct diseased tissues in the obstructed sinus areas, greatly improving nasal function.
• Nasal fracture reduction (closed)In a Closed Nasal Fracture Reduction, nasal bone fractures may be straightened within a few weeks after the injury. Under brief general anesthesia, instruments are placed in the nasal cavity and the displaced bone(s) are moved back into position. No incisions are necessary.
• Nasal fracture reduction (open)An Open Nasal Fracture Reduction, done under local anesthesia, adds small incisions inside the nose to move the nasal bones displaced by injury.
• Nasal valve reconstructionNasal valve surgery encompasses a variety of minor procedures designed to stent open the valve. A piece of patients own cartilage is used for this procedure.
• RhinoplastyRhinoplasty is surgery that changes the shape of the nose, to either change the appearance of the nose, to improve breathing or both.
• SeptoplastySeptoplasty is a procedure to correct a deviated septum, (a displacement of the bone and cartilage that divides your two nostrils) where your nasal septum is straightened and repositioned in the middle of your nose.
• Septoplasty with Turbinate ReductionSeptoplasty with Turbinate Reduction involves the repairing or straightening of a deviated septum while reducing enlarged turbinates (small structures inside the nose that cleanse and humidify air) to normal size.
Pediatric Procedures:
• Ear tubes (tympanostomy, BMT)An Ear tubes (tympanostomy BMT) procedure is used to insert ear tubes in both ears to let air into the area behind the eardrum and to keep the pressure equalized to atmospheric pressure in the middle ear.
• TonsillectomyTonsillectomy is a surgical procedure in which both palatine tonsils are fully removed from the back of the throat.
• Tonsillectomy with adenoidectomy (T&A)A tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (T&A) is a procedure done to remove both the tonsils and the adenoids when a child has both breathing and swallowing problems.
• AdenoidectomyAdenoidectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove the adenoids, a mass of lymphoid tissue located behind the nasal passages.
• Ear tubes with adenoidectomyEar tubes with adenoidectomy is a procedure where myringotomies and tympanostomy tubes are placed in conjunction with the child’s adenoidectomy.
• Ear tubes with T&AEar Tubes with Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy is a procedure involving the insertion of pediatric ear tubes and the removal of tonsils and adenoids.
